Webinar: Yoga and Mindfulness – 25th June, 2022
On account of International World Yoga Day, RMCC conducted a session with an expert to explain to all its participants about the importance of yoga and mindfulness. Yoga is the link which connects the mind and body of an individual and helps in improving their overall wellbeing. The participants were informed about the importance of yoga and the importance of being mindfully present during the tasks they do.
When you lift weights, your muscles get stronger and bigger. When you do yoga, your brain cells develop new connections, and changes occur in brain structure as well as function, resulting in improved cognitive skills, such as learning and memory. Yoga strengthens parts of the brain that play a key role in memory, attention, awareness, thought, and language. Think of it as weightlifting for the brain. Yoga’s incorporation of meditation and breathing can help improve a person’s mental well-being. Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness; increases body awareness; relieves chronic stress patterns; relaxes the mind; centers attention; and sharpens concentration
The various benefits of the different asanas and pranayamas were discussed. The facilitator then gave the instructions to practice all the different pranayamas and asanas and demonstrated how to perform each. The importance of each of them and the order in which they need to be practiced were also discussed. The participants were then instructed to follow the instructions given and were made to practice the same. It helped them to regulate their breathing and focus on the present moment.
The participants were told that the practice of improving their mental health and physical health is not solely based on what they do today and this should be something they do on a regular basis to work through the emotional concerns and stressors they may face. And they were also informed that if these stressors continue to trouble them, they should reach out for emotional and mental health support from experts in the field to work through their concerns and achieve a balance.
The participants enjoyed the sessions and provided us with positive feedback for the session and mentioned that it helped them feel refreshed.
