Anger Management Seminar
RMCC conducted a presentation on ‘Anger Management’ for the students of Rotaract club on 20th September, Tuesday. The objective of the session was to help the students to understand how they compartmentalize anger better and learn effective strategies to manage anger more effectively. Most of us perceive anger as a negative emotion and hence tend to use unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with anger. But anger as an emotion helps us understand when we face any form of injustice or if we feel hurt and gives us a lot of information about how we feel. How we use this information is what helps us deal with anger effectively.
The students were encouraged to interact throughout the session and they gave their inputs constantly and were involved during the session. The facilitator helped them identify their triggers for causing anger by giving them various examples and encouraged the students to pen it down. The purpose of penning down triggers is that it helps students identify what leads to anger and can be more vigilant in dealing with the same. The students were also asked to think of the physical manifestations of anger so that they can identify the signs of anger and become aware of how they feel physically when they are angry.
The negative impact of not expressing anger can lead to multiple mental health and physical health issues. Hence the importance of healthy coping mechanisms was discussed with the students and they were asked to share the coping mechanisms they currently use to manage their anger. Practical strategies to manage anger was discussed with them and they were asked to incorporate them in their regular life. Tips to communicate in a healthy manner were also discussed with them.
The students thanked the facilitator for the seminar and mentioned that the strategies discussed would be helpful for them to manage their anger effectively. They also mentioned that they would like such presentations to be conducted on a regular basis for their self growth.
