Empowering Educators: Workshop on Learning & Behavioural Needs

On Saturday, 13th September, RMCC organised a three-hour training session for teachers titled “Empowering Educators – Tools to Identify, Intervene & Manage Learning and Behaviour Needs.”

The workshop focused on helping teachers recognise the early signs of learning difficulties and behavioural concerns and provided age-appropriate strategies they could immediately try in their classrooms.

What stood out was the space created for teachers to share their own classroom challenges. The facilitators listened, understood their concerns, and suggested practical ways forward. During the Q&A, teachers received clear, actionable ideas on how to respond to situations they face daily whether it was managing disruptive behaviour or supporting a child struggling with academics.

Interactive activities provided hands-on learning opportunities, allowing educators to test strategies in real time and reflect on their effectiveness. For participants, this was particularly valuable as it not only deepened understanding but also gave them clarity on which approaches could work best in their own classrooms.

The session was facilitated by RMCC Special Education Department and hosted by its counsellor, making it both interactive and practice-driven. Teachers participated with genuine enthusiasm, exchanging insights and reflecting on their practices. Each participant took home a strategy handout and screening checklist, carefully designed as a ready reference to extend the learning into everyday teaching. In addition, they received classroom cards with simple prompts and strategies to help address general student behaviour, providing them with ready-to-use tools to support discipline and engagement in class.

These resources emphasised that when teachers, special educators, and parents work together, children are better supported in overcoming academic challenges. Teachers bring their day-to-day classroom observations, special educators adapt strategies to fit diverse learning needs, and parents provide consistent reinforcement at home. Together, this partnership ensures that students not only cope with difficulties but are able to grow with confidence and independence.

Feedback from Teachers

Feedback from teachers was overwhelmingly positive. Many shared that the session gave them new confidence and clarity, and several requested for similar training to be conducted in their own institutions.
