Academic Screening Camp
Following the Term 1 exams, many students did not meet the expected academic standards. To better understand the challenges these students were facing, RMCC launched a charitable initiative aimed at empowering them to overcome academic obstacles and reach their full potential. The goal of this initiative was to identify the reasons behind students' academic difficulties, including comprehension challenges, reading fluency, and spelling accuracy.
The camp received an overwhelming response, with numerous walk-in. Each child underwent a personalized assessment, focusing on three critical academic skills:
The screening focused on three key academic skills: Reading Fluency, Spelling Accuracy, and Comprehension Abilities. Reading Fluency was assessed to evaluate the child's ability to read accurately, quickly, and with appropriate expression. Spelling Accuracy aimed to identify areas where the child might struggle with phonetic patterns, word structure, or vocabulary. Comprehension skills were examined to gauge the child’s understanding of text, including their ability to infer, interpret, and analyze the content, providing a comprehensive view of their academic capabilities.
Specialized counselors conducted these assessments, ensuring that each child received individual attention. This thorough evaluation enabled the identification of specific areas where additional support was needed.
Detailed Individual Reports and Tailored Strategies
Following the screenings, RMCC prepared detailed individual reports for each student, highlighting both their strengths and the challenges they encountered. To provide further support, RMCC organized one-on-one consultation sessions where counselors explained the findings of the screening in detail, offering personalized suggestions and interventions to address the identified challenges. Additionally, strategies were recommended to improve academic performance, with a focus on both short-term solutions and long-term development. These sessions aimed to create a collaborative relationship between parents and educators, working together to support each child's academic journey.
