Physiotherapy is the branch of medicine concerned with physical disorders. The study of physiotherapy includes the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease using physical methods.Physiotherapists as a profession help develop, maintain or restore motor functions and movement of physically injured patients. The skills required for a physiotherapist are to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and formulate the treatment plan for them.

Physiotherapy Courses in India

There are three types of Physiotherapy courses:

1) Diploma courses
2) Bachelor courses

1. Details for Diploma Course in Physiotherapy
A diploma in Physiotherapy (DPT) is a two-year professional paramedical course. The course fees range from Rs 10,000 – Rs 5,00,000/. The eligibility for the course is that the candidate must complete 12th Grade in the science stream(Physics , Chemistry and Biology ). The admission for the course is based on merit. The students will get admission according to the marks obtained in the 12th board examination. The syllabus for the Diploma programme in Physiotherapy is Basics of Physiotherapy, Anatomy, First Aid and Nursing, Biomechanics, Orthopedic and Rehabilitation. 

2. Details for the Bachelor’s course in Physiotherapy

The Bachelor’s course in Physiotherapy (BPT) is an undergraduate course that deals with physical movement of the body to cure physical disorders of the people. The duration is four years and six months of internship from the college or university.

Eligibility  :

  1. The candidate must pass 12th Grade in the science stream i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with at least 50% marks and the selection criterion of the course is based on merit.
  2. The admission process is based on the candidate’s performance in the entrance examination scores.

Physiotherapy

Structure and Syllabus of the Physiotherapy Entrance Exam
The national, regional, or university entrance exams compose 100 questions and are in the type of Multiple Choices Questions. The structure of the Physiotherapy Entrance Exam will consist of questions based on the 12th Grade curriculum and encompasses three sections firstly candidates’ knowledge of the English language, secondly aptitude and proficiency and thirdly knowledge of basic subjects they have studied in their higher secondary level. Each entrance exam has its own syllabus.  TheIPU CET (Indraprastha University Common Entrance Test) is through National Level Test conducted or through Common Entrance Tests (CET) conducted by the University .The exam duration is for three hours with 150 questions in English medium.

3. Details for the Post Graduate Course (Master’s Degree)
The master’s programme is a two-year course and pursued after completing a Bachelor’s in Physiotherapy. The course focuses on the techniques and methods used by physiotherapists to apply modern and natural techniques.

Eligibility :

The eligibility for the course is the candidate must obtain a 50% score in Bachelor’s degree from a recognised board or university in the same field i.e Bachelor of Physiotherapy. A mandatory internship in the same field from a trusted organization.
